According to MTB3 1st choice of treatment for ITP is prednisone, Kaplan Lecture Notes says try IVIG before steroids.
Also MTB3 says DO NOT TREAT PLATELET COUNT but treat according to symptoms. I remember UW saying different.

Guys need a little help here ..

What Kaplan Says

In Medicine Lecture notes:
Prednisone is the initial therapy in most patients.
Splenectomy is used in who very low platelet counts less than 10000-20000/mm3 continue to recur depsite repeated courses.
IVIG or RhoGam may be used in patients with profoundly low platelet counts (<10000 uL) or in patients at risk for life-threatening bleeding.
In those who recur after splenectomy, romiplostim or eltrombppag are used.

In pediatrics Lecture notes:
IVIG for 1-2 days.
If inadequate, then prednisone.
Splenectomy reserved for older child with severe disease.

So I guess Kaplan's Medicine lecture notes goes the same as UW.

May I ask which year your Kaplan notes are?
Thanks
