A 29-year-old man with a 3-year history of hip and lower back pain complains of morning stiffness of his back that improves with exercise. He is otherwise healthy and currently not taking any medications. His physical examination
is unremarkable except for a decrease in chest expansion. X-ray of the spine is shown in the image. To prevent potential serious adverse effects associated with the preferred treatment, which test should be administered first?
