Brazil Brazilian IMG applying for General Surgery Residency

Hello,

Next year it's my graduation year in Brazil, and I would like to apply for General Surgery Residency in the match of that year (2012). Presuming that I took all the steps, but since I ill only have the ECFMG certificate in 2013, because it takes a while after graduation, is there any residency program that accepts non-certified IMG?

I'm worried, because the chances to an IMG to be accepted is really low, and besides that, my ECFMG wont be ready until 2-3 months after the match!

Should I wait my ECFMG certificate and dont try for a match in 2012?
I just would like to know some programs that accept (if there is a single one) applicants with that condition?

thanks in advance.

No residency in USA, surgery or others, accept IMGs without ECFMG certificate, not a single one.

But at the time that i start residency, I will have my ECFMG certificate.

Copied from ECFMG site:

"Although you must be ECFMG-certified before entering the program, you can apply to residency programs before you are certified by ECFMG. If you apply to residency programs using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), ECFMG will automatically transmit an ECFMG Status Report to the programs to which you apply. You can also participate in the NRMP prior to becoming ECFMG-certified, provided you have passed the exams required by the NRMP and the results of these exams are reported to the NRMP in time to participate."

Yes, that's the official recommendation but for practical purposes and in reality, no program will rank you if you don't have the ECFMG certificate.

This is simply because even if you pass all the steps there might be issues with your credentials verification, PDs are not willing to take that risk. They don't want to rank you and then you won't get certified, they'll be in big trouble because then they won't be able to find a replacement (once the match and post-match is done).

I am telling you this out of my experience with one my friends, whose ECFMG certificate was delayed, he was not matched and he regrets the issue until this day.

So, ...Sabio, ...are you saying that....even if I get good scores I wont be considered for almost any program since I dont have the ECFMG certification?
two short questions, please:
a) When is the deadline for presenting a postulation? I understad is November 30th?
b) If I give my step 2 CS on october 3rd.....should I expect having the results on time but before the deadline? (I dont understand what is that deadline for, because everybody say "they will enter in the process in september" and in forums like this people seems say that "if one dont participate on september....so better forget real chances". (so what is that so late deadline for? I mean... the last november day?)
thank a lot for you attention, Sabio.

Yes, if you don't have ECFMG certificate you won't be considered certified even if you have passed all the steps.

As for the deadline, there's no black and white, it's gray and every program is different from others.
