Certificate ECFMG certified straight after results!

Will I be looked on as ECFMG certified as soon as I have the report for step1, 2CK, 2CS or do I have to wait for the physical certificate? Because I will probably just about have all my results by September 1st!

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Info Some facts about ECFMG certificate and ERAS

Passing all the three exams is not a guarantee that you are ECFMG certified. The other major requirement is to have your credentials verified.

Some PDs and Residency selection committees (specially those who deal with lots of IMG applicants) are quite sensitive about this issue. Because there have been instances in the past where IMGs could not get the ECFMG certificate (or got it very late) even after passing all the steps.

Therefore, some of PDs (notice that I am saying some of them not all of them) are not willing to invite applicants who are not ECFMG certified by the time they apply in ERAS. They usually mention that in their IMG applicant criteria in their website.

Furthermore, you cannot just say that you are certified if you don't have the official certificate. This is because ERAS asks you about the date of issue (in month, not in exact day). So if you don't have the certificate issued, you are not sure which month it will be issued.

Some people, specially those who like to take risks, would guess the month of issue and write that in ERAS. For example in your case, you can say September as the date of issue, even though you did not get the certificate yet. If you are comfortable with that, you can do it.

The ECFMG certificate usually takes 2 weeks to be issued after you pass all the required exams. Once it's issued, the date of issue will appear in your OASIS account even before you receive the physical certificate by FedEx.

Also, ERAS and ECFMG are on their heels during late August and September and generally they hire more people to work during that period and therefore stuff moves really fast, I expect that you'll get the certificate within one week during that time, not 2 weeks.

You can also read the threads that discussed this issue by clicking on the ECFMG-Certificate tag link at the bottom of this thread.

uh uh, You do need the physical cert. I don't mean to scare you, but I know someone with 99/99, who went unmatched cos he didn't have the cert. , and prematched the subsequent year.
Though you shouldn't worry much cos you ll probably have it in your hands max in 4 weeks' time, so you 'll still be good to go!

If all I'm waiting for is CS results, am I technically not ECFMG eligible when this result comes through the door? I presume my results would be with me before 1st September, otherwise will my application be jeopardised?

I mean as soon as CS result (pass) arrives; and having I passed 1 and 2ck already and sent in all my paper work am I not fine for match? Will I be at a disadvantage until months later even if I have got CS results by 1st September?

That's pretty much what I answered in my previous post. Please read my previous post carefully.

You will be at disadvantage with some of the programs, not all of them.

Default Hi

Hello, i can see your answers are very helplful and have this doubt. I am looking in Freida and all the programs so far say Ecfmg certification required. Does this means the certification is required by the time you apply (lets say septmeber 15th) or by the time they review all the applications and decide who to interview? (lets say early november)
