Default fmg problem

Hello everyone,
I'm FMG who graduated in 2015. I've just started a residency in my home coutry in ob/gyn. Do you think it's possible to start residency (ob/gyn) in the US after finishing residency in my country? Or would it be possible to get into Family medicine or Internal medicine after finishing ob/gyn in my country (cause I know that these specializations are more fmg friendly). I am really confused. Any advise is welcome. Please help!

It depends on which field you are interested in. Prior residency in Ob/Gyn would definitely look good on the residency application. But the most important aspects for matching are scores, USCE with strong LoRs and networking. Ob/Gyn is obviously harder to get into (roughly about 110 IMGs, both US and Non US citizens combined matched into 1200 odd positions in 2015), but if that is what you are really in, you would have to build your application around it (like do observerships or externships in Ob/gyn, get strong LoRs from ob/gyn rotations and possibly research). FM, IM, Peds are relatively IMG friendly; but it just depends in the end on what you really want to do. You do not want to be stuck doing something you don't like for the rest of your life. Have a good look at your goals and move forward based on that. Good luck!
