Registration Student Status Confirmation with ECFMG

Dear Friends,

I registered for my usmle steps as a student. but my student status will change this month but I wont get my degree until next year.

I have been told by colleagues that there will be a 'student status verification form' sent to med school when you apply as a student!!

In this regard I called ecfmg yesterday in hope of trying to get that form sent to med school via fedex.... but the man told me that 'they do not need to verify my student status'

from what I know this form is being sent for all those who applied as students in the past year... what is the current situation.... do they still send this form?

I really do need to keep track of this form if its sent because my med school is highly unreliable.... so will appreciate your input.... thanks a lot.

Hoping for some replies desperately.

Correct Answer They Do Verify!

They do verify your student status but it doesn't happen to all.
I have 2 friends of mine, who have taken the exam just a week apart in March and everything else in their profiles is same. Yet, only for one of them, was the verification email sent to the college. Guess it is just a random thing ECFMG does. If they don't need to verify your status means THEY DON"T NEED TO VERIFY YOUR STATUS! Simple!

Hope this helps at least a bit.

If you have told them that you won't be graduating until next year, then they won't need to confirm your status until next year when become graduate.

In ECFMG, graduate means holding final medical diploma and transcript.

Thanks Rokizdoc and sabio....

But this whole situation does seem a little tricky...

First, Rokizdoc you mentioned that 'an email' was sent for one student... but my school does not participate in ESWMP..... does your school?

And Sabio... there has a been senior I know who had a similar situation as mine....
i.e. finished intern in may '11 but got degree in Feb '12..... the 'student status verification' form was sent in her case after she completed her internship... she was not aware of this thing and her results got delayed by months....

All this is in India.... Rokizdoc which country do you belong to?

The worst thing is that ECFMG has not OFFICIALLY declared on their website about this extra procedure....

I also wondered may be its a random thing but it has happened to everyone I know... that number being 3 all from different school and states!

Extra things I found out is that such a form is not sent for step 2cs exam.

Also, one said this form is sent out by ECFMG the day you give your exam where as someone else told it was sent on the day/month internship was completed...

Also, one person claimed that this form was sent to his home address as well as his school...!!

I really do not want to be too bothered about the whole thing right now but I am planning to study for CK immediately after my step 1 and I just don't want 'score delay due to pending student status verification issue' to interfere with CK study time...

Hope there is a solution and a clear answer to ECFMG'S mysterious ways....

My school does not participate in EMSWP either. I am an Indian too. Andhra Pradesh specifically. This email I was talking about, was sent to my school's registered email with ECFMG. They have sent it when my friend registered for the exam in October. My school was lazy to reply to it, so my friend had score report delay due that issue. He finally got his scores yesterday after my school sent the confirmation through postal mail(courier) 2 weeks back, as they couldn't recover the email ECFMG sent them.

Thanks Rokizdoc... That helps.

Guess I will keep myself mentally prepared for score delays etc.
