Angry ECFMG validity period, 5 or 7 years!

Hey everybody,

My form 186 got accepted by the ECFMG on the 16 May 2012 . Now on OASIS, my status is "waiting for verification from medical school".and they sent am email and they stated that ;
(Your Certification of Identification Form submitted 04/26/2012 has been accepted. This form will remain on file and be valid for a period of five years. The validity dates are as follows: 06/01/2012 through 06/01/2017.)
what that's mean, my question regarding (valid for a period of five years) I knew that the validity is 7 years, is there any change made to this recently? what is the meaning of Validity ??? is it for the verification or the period of the exams?? and when tha period started is it from now or from the 1st exam ? and if i didn't do my exam within 5 years should i start my ECFMG process ( forms 187,186,345,344..) from the beginning ???

really am confused

thanx

it means that you don't need to send in this form again when you apply for the next exam. if you submit an application to ecfmg for your step after the validity expires, then you will have to send in a new form of identification. that's about it.

Your USMLE Exam Score is valid for 7 years.
Your Form 186 is valid for 5 years.

Did I answer your question?

If you did not finish the USMLE exams in 5 years then you have to renew your Form 186.

Hello again ..
You have seven years to finish all the steps (Step 1, CK, and CS).
For example, if you take CS in February 2011, then you have to pass CK and Step 1 before February 2018. But how we can say you have 7 years to finish all usmale steps and at the same times you have 5 years validity for your 186 ??? Its illogical

try to understand the two validities are different. One is validity of our identification other is validity of our clinical knowledge. one is 5 years and other is 7 years.
hope this helps

Hi.
I passed USMLE steps 1-2 (there were only 2 steps back then) in 1995 and I have my Certificate. Does that ECFMG Certificate have an expiration date? I mean, did I lose that certificate?
