Portugal In need of some help with ECFMG application

Hi, I have some questions about ECFMG application that I hope someone can help me with...

First of all, I'm not a (international) medical graduate yet. I'll be done with med school at the end of this coming July. So, my first question is: should I apply NOW as a medical student or wait and do it as a medical graduate? I intend to do step 1 in December but I'm afraid that the process takes too long and I loose my eligibility period.. (my med school is listed in IMED).

Second, do I really need to add all my clinical clerkships to my application?? I'm asking this because I feel like, the more I add, the more they need to verify and the longer the process takes. Besides, I had to pass all my clinical rotations to advance in my course so if it is on the record as a subject passed isn't redundant to add it??

Third, I went for 5 months to Turkey on an exchange program sponsored by my faculty (erasmus program). I did only 2 clinical rotations. Do I need to put the Turkish Faculty as a "other Medical School attended" and do I need to go through the credit transfer ordeal??

Thank you
This forum has been a beacon of hope (cheesy I know ) for a lot of people so a million thanks to everyone that contributes to it

I'd suggest you wait until you graduate then you apply to ECFMG because you will have to verify your change of status from student to graduate if you apply now, so why the hassle twice, just wait until you get the Diploma in hand.

Regarding the Turkish rotations, I think it's not considered a transfer of credit, just mention them as out-of-country elective rotations. The real answer comes from your medical school transcript, would they mention those Turkey rotations and give them credit? if the answer is yes then you might consider credit transfer, otherwise just mention them as clerkships.

As for clerkships, my understanding is that you need to mention the clerkships that are not mentioned in your final medical school transcript, any core rotation need not to be mentioned, more about this here

In your other thread you mentioned you are from Portugal, I suggest you check the Portugal- tag link at the bottom of this thread to connect with Portuguese USMLE students.

StepTaker, you're gooood eheheh thank you so much for the input!

I'm gonna call my faculty in order to understand how will my two clinical clerkships in turkey gonna appear in my transcript... They were not elective but were in fact equivalent to two of my core rotations. I am not sure if in my transcript there will be any mention of any Turkish Faculty or transference of credits... Anyway, I'll have to figure this out tomorrow.

Thank you

Hi I am studying in a Mexican school and I did an exchange in Europe for 6 months in 6th semester, in my final medical transcript those subjects appear like exchange instead of saying ordinary like the subjects taken at my school, I called ECFMG and they told me I needed to ask my medical school how are they considered. Do you anything about this?
