Question Step 1 number of attempts and reapplying waiting time?

Still have my exam booked, but I feel like I wont be completely ready and want to extend it for about 3 weeks. However my 3 month extension ends end of October. I feel like I have to decide now because I dont want to pay a fee to Prometric for cancelling after 31 days. I have 2 questions:

1) Is re applying and extending your exam considered as attempts ? For example, your 3 month eligibility is May-June-July. And you apply for an extension which would be Aug-Sep-Oct . Is that considered as 2 attempts ? Just wondering if theres a limit to how many times you can apply and extend.

2) How long do I have to wait again before I can apply again ? If I cancel, I'd like to take it a couple weeks later and no later than that. Can I apply right away once my 3 months are over?

Thanks in advance!

You can only extend one time, after that you have to pay the exam fees again and apply new application.

Extending your eligibility period and not appearing for the exam does not count as an attempt, for more details read here
Cancelling the exam does not count as an attempt

You cannot reapply for the exam until your six months eligibility period finishes and reapplication takes at least 3 weeks to get everything done.

Can you please tell me if it is mandatory for all new re-applications, after extended eligibility period ends, to take 2 weeks time for availability of a fresh application? I came across somewhere that this is the time taken by prometric to inform ECFMG the 'exam not taken' status.

And, does it make any difference for me if I don't cancel my prometric appointment as I'm looking for a new Step 1 re-application with ECFMG?

Lastly, is there any difference in the time taken for granting scheduling permit on re-application compared to initial application?

Thanks
