Default Another query

One more thing, I read on somewhere that if our application is not fully processed by the 25th of the first month of the eligibility period, we'll automatically get the next eligibility period. Is it true?
My chosen eligibility period is Oct-Dec but my med school won't verify my student status till December, which is why I'm having to postpone the exam. So if the above statement is true, I'll automatically get the next eligibility period of Jan-March without applying for an extension. Is this actually true?? Please tell me before I give $65 in vain.

If your extension of eligibility period is not fully processed by January 25, 2013, then your extension will be canceled and you won't get it and you will have to reapply and pay the full fees again.

The extension of eligibility period has two parts for it, online and Form 86.

You must find a link for the request for extension in your IWA account.

You are eligible for extension because you already started your three months eligibility period.

This issue has been discussed in the forums several times before, I recommend you search the ECFMG forum for the keyword "extension"

Give them a call.

There should be a link somewhere.

Maybe it's just a delay, because today is your first day when you are eligible for extension.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did call them, and they said once my med school verified my student status, the link would be on my IWA account.

So will I have to get form 186 signed from my principal and send it again? Will my med school have to verify my student status again? Please let me know.

Thanks

Did you receive scheduling permit for the exam?

It looks like your application is still pending approval and you are not even assigned an eligibility period yet.

What do mean by sending Form 186 again? Did you send one before? Check the status of your Form 186 in your OASIS account.

My form 186 is verified and valid with ECFMG for the next 5 years.

The problem is that my med school wasn't verifying my status. They want to verify my status by the end of this year.

Assigned an eligibility period?? Don't I get to choose which period I want? If ECFMG assigns one too, then no I haven't gotten that.

I just wanted to know whether form 186 has to be sent again when we want to extend our exam. And whether the med school has to verify the status again.

It looks like you did not receive a scheduling permit which means the eligibility period that you have applied for is not yet approved which means most probably they'll assign you the next available eligibility period November-December-January.

Since you have a valid Form 186 then you don't need to send another one.

Oh that's great.

One last question: will my med school have to re-verify my student status when i apply for any sort of extension?

Yes. They have to always verify your student status whenever you apply for anything with the ECFMG, but once you graduate the story ends and they will no more contact them.

Sabio,
I also have the same problem, i.e there is no link on my IWA page to extend my eligibility period.
I am IMG, and a graduate with valid Form 186 and all my credentials were received and verified by ECFMG 6 mths ago.
For my current Step1, I was assigned Dec-Jan-Feb 2013 period. I also got my scheduling permit. And I took 31 Jan date at Prometric, Mumbai center. But due to Prometric's some technical issue, they closed all major centers in India for Jan- Feb period. Hence my exam date was cancelled by them and I wasn't charged for it as it was their error.
Now since Feb is ending and the centers haven't come up yet, I have to extend my eligibility period to March-Apr-May. But when I opened my IWA page on ECFMG site, there was no link to extend it. Kindly guide me if I have done some mistake and advise me what should I do here. I am also going to call ECFMG.

Default Extending eligibility period as a student. Please help.

Please help me. I dont know if the rules are different for students. This was mentioned on ecfmg when I opted to extend eligibility period.

"Original Eligibility Period: 01 Sep 2014 to 30 Nov 2014
Extended Eligibility Period Requested: 01 Sep 2014 to 28 Feb 2015
Deadline: 26 Dec 2014
Note: ECFMG must complete the processing of your request by this deadline or your request will be rejected. In order to process your request, ECFMG must receive both the on-line part and, if required, the Certification of Identification Form (Form 186) or Certification Statement (Form 183-E). If your medical school is required to verify your status through the ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP) Status Verification program, ECFMG cannot complete the processing of your request until it receives this verification. As a result, the time needed to complete the processing of your request may be contingent upon your medical school's response to the EMSWP verification request."

So, according to ecfmg, it may require form 186 and medical school verification. anyone has done it before as a student and has any idea? I have nine weeks for my exam. I've been advised to take 6-8 weeks of bed rest by the doctor as I have disc herniation. So, travelling to my medical school (which is a day journey) and getting all the process done again is impossible. I'm not able to prepare properly due to pain and discomfort, and I'm not very confident of giving the exam in other 9 weeks. I must extend somehow without having to send the form 186 again. Please help me!
