Registration please help! about exam application

hi.friends,,i am very sorry if i am posting this post in the wrong thread, because i don't know where this topic should be posted..i am quiet confuse about the usmle application..

well, i got the ECFMG identification number and i have paid (the $50 ) to register on the online application.. i am now trying to apply for the USMLE exam..but i am quiet confuse,

1. the item 2 asks me the eligibility period..do i have to decide it that early? i am not sure when i can take the exam right now..can i fulfill the required documents without choosing my eligibility period first? but, how can i get the "186 or 183 form" without choosing the egiligiblity period?

2. how can i know if my medical school has already registered at the EMSWP?because i don't know which form to choose (form 186 or 183)?

3. letter size is not commonly used in my country (though i can find some)..is it ok if i use mixed size paper (A4 and letter size paper)? i use the letter size for the diploma though

4. i don't really understand the use of form 187 , they said that we included it if we have any additional document to complete my document? what kind of additional document do they mean?
and also, should i not send this form if i send the form 186 or form 183 only?

please help..thank you in advance

best regards,Jeansen

Hi there

Yup you do have to choose your eligibility period when you apply for the exam.

After I was done with the online part of the exam application, form 186 automatically appeared on my screen (my med school participates on EMSWP). yours will come automatically at the end too.

I dont understand your third query

By other additional documents, I guess they mean diplomas etc. If you're only sending either form 186/183, don't send form 187

Hope this helps

Hi,

If I were in your place, I wouldn't apply for the exam unless I had a somewhat rough idea in my mind when I would be able to give it. By the way, since it's a busy time of the year (Christmas being so close and all) your application and form 186 processing time will take longer than it does on other days.

So how much time does it usually take for the application to get processed?
And how much time will it take now?Because I am thinking of applying for it now too.

Obviously the longest time is the verification process of form 186. I applied way back in March, and it took 3 weeks to process. I think it will take a tad longer than that at this time.

thanks fat1iscool.
So guess it will take more than a month for this to get processed if we start now.And we can know the exact date of exam after it gets processed and when we schedule the test with the prometric center I think?.Pls correct me if I am wrong.

Sort of. After your form 186 gets processed, your medical school has to verify your status online (if you're still a student). If it's form 183 that you've sent, then I think the medical school verifies it through post. Depending on when all these processes are complete, you'll be assigned a triplet, which may or may not be different from the triplet you originally chose. Then you can choose a date for your exam on prometric on your assigned eligibility period. Hope all this made sense

hi, there..dr.Shamail: if u read about the bulletin information, you can see that they need a form about it..marriage certificate, and the medical school statement that she is truly the one in her diploma..do not register before you are sure what name you should register..for sure, you may need to ask the ECFMG about it.. email: credentials@ecfmg.org

btw, Fast1iscool: will my ecfmg registration expired if i don't fill the exam application right now ?thx u
