Question Change testing region (different country)

I am an IMG and just started to apply for USMLE examination Step 1 on ECFMG and chose the eligibility period of May/June/July 13 since I'd like to take the exam in May 2013 in the USA. However, it's gonna take a while (probably weeks) to even get the scheduling permit (since my university has to send letters there etc.). So it's possible that by then all seats in May are taken which means that I'd have to schedule in June or July, but then I'm not gonna be in the US anymore. What do I have to do if I have to schedule the exam in another country than I said in the application?? thanks!!

You'll have to call them. Explain your problem and they'll tell you to send a fax stating your problem and the region you'd like to choose. Ask the person's name and send a fax to them (address it to the person you spoke to). You can call the next day to confirm whether they got your fax or not. I think it takes around 10-14 days for processing, then you'll receive your new scheduling permit, within the new testing region.
However, since you say your med school has not yet sent form 186 or verified your status, it's probably a little early to do this.
Do read other threads on the same matter too.
