Question When to apply for Step 1?

i am from India and just cleared final year MBBS.
now started preparing for step 1.
when should i start applying for step 1?
if i plan it to give it this december?

I would suggest applying 6 months before. But you can do so earlier if you wish. This gives you enough time to assess ur own level of readiness before applying for a particular test date.

When you apply, you get to pick a 3 month eligibility period during which you wish to take the exam. And if you think you need extra time when you get closer to the chosen date, you can extend ur eligibility period by a further 3 months for an additional fee (I think $100).

So if you plan to write the exam in December, I suggest you apply for the period covering Dec-Jan-Feb.
