Question Graduation date of form 186 and medical diploma are not the same

Hello everyone,

Is it a major problem if the graduation date on form 186, and the actual graduation date on the medical diploma are not the same??

I'm actually a student right now, and expected to graduate in March or April 2014 iA. However, when I was filling out the registration stuff in ECFMG (last year), my expected graduation date at that time was February 2014. S obviously there's a small discrepancy.

Does it matter? If so, how do I fix it?

Actually, now that I'm looking at my form 186, it's got 2 relevant headings.

Expected graduation date and expected degree date. Seriously, what's the difference? And since the word "expected" is used, surely they might accept or maybe even expect a slight variation?

I would be very grateful if somebody could shed some light on this matter.

I dont think it will matter since u still are student & have not received your degree yet.... & u r rt, the term "expected" implies that there can be some variation... But had u been a graduate then both the dates should be same.

I just read an old thread somewhere on this forum that if the graduation date on the diploma and form 186 do not match, we have to resend form 186, or re-update it or comething. Thing is, I'm not sure if the person asking this question was a student or a graduate. Does anybody know something about this?

I would really appreciate it if the forum moderators could also give me their opinions on this matter

For those people out there who may be searching for the answers to the same question I had posted in this thread, it does not matter if the graduation date on the diploma and that on form 186 are slightly different, AS LONG AS YOU ARE A STUDENT!

docsdr had given the same opinion, but I felt it was better to be safe than sorry in this matter, and got it confirmed from the ECFMG.

Hope it helps anybody in a similar situation

Hey , thanks a lot for the info ,, but i was wondering if this does apply to my situation as well !!

I am currently doing my internship (which is compulsory for getting the medical diploma after passing medical school) but I would also be applying for clinical electives and ,hence, I am not yet sure about my expected date of graduation !!

Right now,I am applying for Step 1, but what do I mention in the Item 18 of the ecfmg application form, (the expected date of graduation), coz I am not sure how long I would be delaying my graduation !!

I called up ecfmg explaining this same situation too but was told to put some expected date of graduation..!! I don't know what he meant by some date ???
Is this "AS LONG AS YOU ARE A STUDENT!" criteria, as you mentioned above still valid in my case ??

Plzz ,I wanna be sure about this and hear this from someone in particular so as to be contended ... !!
Any inputs would be highly appreciated !!
Thanks a lot !!

Hey neutrino,

Well the answer to your question is beyond my limited knowledge. I hope one of the forum moderators will be able to help you out. Or somebody who has personally gone through the same situation. Good luck!!

Default graduation date/ degree date

hello pals
i came through an error and i submitted my form number 186 with the incorrect dates.
how to correct the dates:
1. log in to ur iwa or oasis (usmle/ecfmg account)
2. sign in a new application for steps.
3. over ride your previous application. (your payment will go no where; not to worry)
4. fill in the form with the correct dates this time.
5. pay ur form with the amount in ur account. (ur payment will b saved after u over ride ur application)
6. form 186 is submitted again. BUT new 186 form is NOT CHANGED with the new dates. no need to worry. take a pen and clearly cut down the incorrect dates and write the correct date neatly and sign beside it.
7. submit ur form 186.
8. finish.
u dont need to call ecfmg now after u read this if ur in any trouble for the form 186 graduation dates and all..
hope u got it..
if not then u can surely call that will help u out for sure.
