Help Question about Transferred Credits

Had a quick question guys, I transferred to a Caribbean University from Pakistan, and am applying for the Step 1, now my transcript from Pakistan says Hours completed (400 hrs/ subject), not credit hours, and they apparently don't work on Credit hours, so now the question remains, when filling out the application for ECFMG, do I list what Transferred Credit hours my current University gave me for those Courses completed or do I need to somehow convert my Hours completed into Credit hours?

how would I go about this? Or should I just contact my current University and ask them how many credit hours have they transferred/accepted from Pakistan and jot those down in my ECFMG application?

Question What is mentioned in your transcript?

What is mentioned in your final medical school transcript?

Do they mention the number of units transferred?

Well, I'm not done with med school yet and I don't have my final transcript from my current school, but the transcript from my previous school says the following

Anatomy (including embryology, histology, radiology and Neuroanatomy) = 400 hrs

Physiology and Biochemistry = 400 hrs

Sorry. I thought you are a graduate.

Then in that case. Contact your current school dean's office and show them your previous school transcript and ask them how they will deal with this matter and to how many credit units they are going to translate those hours and then use that in your ECFMG registration. That's the safest approach.

Well, according to my current school I got credited for the first 2 semesters of Basic Sciences....which on their website entails exact credit hours each subject comprises of.

for example:
Gross Anatomy 1 = 4
gross anatomy 2 = 3
biochem = 5
genetics = 2
physio = 6
cell bio = 2
etc...

So now my even more detailed question is that the transcripts from my previous school do not list separate "genetics" or "cell biology" courses because we did those in conjunction with Biochem and Physiology respectively....FOR NOW however I am using my Current School's curriculum as a guide to how many credits I have received, by doing this ECFMG wouldn't consider my application as falsification would it? Thats my MAJOR concern. Because as they say in the application, everything is correct to the BEST of my knowledge, but depends on how anal ECFMG is and how they perceive it...

thanks for you help man, this process is a lot more stressful than I thought! why can't we just focus on studying for the USMLE instead of all this RED TAPE!

I suggest you talk to your dean's office (or registration office or whatever) and ask them "how would they write your units when you graduate?"

Your final medical school transcript from your graduation school is going to be the final verdict upon which the ECFMG certifies you. You should base all your correspondence accordingly.

Do not speculate or extrapolate or guess. Just ask your school what they'll do about your transferred credits and then only answer that ECFMG question.

Do not take this issue lightly. You may run into serious troubles later.

To both dear Sabio & Dr_Kal_El:

I have just started my 5th year...is it a big advantage if I transfer to Caribbean school after I finish the 5th year? I mean to learn 6th year there & Graduate from Caribbean school?

Does this help me in competitive residencies like Surgery ?
May you tell me the approximate University fees?

in other words, does it worth to transfer to caribbean school?

P.S: hold U.S citizenship

There's no use of you transferring even in 5th year.....because all caribbean med schools require Step 1 for rotations, and since you're already done with rotations there, there's no use of transferring unless you want to start in 5th semester here, give the step 1 and do 5 additional semesters of rotations, which i think is kind of pointless and i'd be surprised if you could transfer that late in your med school career....so study hard and focus on giving the step after final year!

hope this helps

Default Does an exchange counts as a transference of credits!

Hi I am studying in a Mexican school and I did an exchange in Europe for 6 months in 6th semester, in my final medical transcript those subjects appear like exchange instead of saying ordinary like the subjects taken at my school, I called ECFMG and they told me I needed to ask my medical school how are they considered. Do you anything about this?
