Question Step 1 Exam 3 month Extension Question

I have a question regarding the 3 month extension eligibility. So I see that you can request it at any point. My current eligibility ends July 31st. Incase I need an extra week or two to prepare, and I apply now, will it freeze my capability of scheduling a date or cancel my current exam date?

Also, if it's approved, does that mean I then have the 3 months added onto my current eligbility period ?

Thanks!

Yes to your second question. It will be extended until Oct 31st, however once you apply for extension you're current scheduling permit will no longer be active, as you'll be issue a new one. Also I would like point out that there is a 50$ fee for cancelling prometric appointment less than 31 and more than 5 days. Can go unto 200-300 within 5 days to the exam.

So you have just above 2 weeks to make up ur mind. If you're not ready, go to prometric site and cancel the appointment before the end of the month, then go to IWA and there is an option for extension and complete the brief online application. ECFMG will contact ur uni and get back to you within a week with a new scheduling permit.

If you're not ready yet, you need to go to prometric websit to cancel your test date. There may be a fees depending how far away are you from exam, if you're more than 31 days, no charge, if you're within 31 days, there's a fee, and if you're within 5 days, fees is more expensive.
You will need to go to ECFMG website to apply for extension of eligibility period, you will need to pay a fees for extension and you're allowed to do it only once. Fees is around 65, i think and you will have additional 3 months and within that extension period you'll have to take your test or other wise you'll lose your fees for exam and re-register.
Re-registration is not a hard process either, as all your documents are on-file and will be eligible for 5 yrs, so you don't need to worry about communication with your school and so on just like the first time..
That's all I know..
good luck with your prep.

Thanks for the replies. I have one more question regarding this. I can't seem to find any date on the last day of July for all 4 locations closest to me. If I apply now and later on see that a date opens up on July 31st.. Would I be able to cancel the extension? I don't mind losing the fee. I need to know b/c I have until August from my school or will have to be pay them a penalty. But right now they might approve the extension since it's June.
