Dollar Sign $820 first?? Then $60?? How??

Hello every1,
This is a great forum n Im 1 of the ppl wanting help.
I began my application from scratch and wanted to get my credentials
verified FIRST. But on logging onto IWA I was prompted to choose an exam. As I was preparing for step2ck I chose that and then after filling out the entire application was prompted to pay $820 exam fees, which I did.
Now I believe I have paid for the exam step2ck.
I have gotten FORM-186,
I have FORM-187,344,345.
I now have to send all these to ECFMG on the given address.

My question is:
1) The above will register me for the exam step2ck and NOT credential
verification to ECFMG?
2) How do I register for credential verification?
3) How do I pay 60$ and begin the verification process?

Kindly help.
Thankyou so much and keep up the good work :-)

Zitney

I dont think you can pay for the exam before paying the fees for the Application for ECFMG Certification. You probably did pay it when you first applied for your USMLE ID number, and back then it was 50 dollars (the price went up).
So usually the verification process does not begin until you register for one of the exams (you dont get those forms until you paid the exam fees) which is exactly what you did.
You do NOT have to do any additional registering to get your credentials verified. What they do is once you apply for an exam you get form 186 or 187 depending on your school, you then fill out all the forms they tell you to, and send them to ECFMG.
If you are a graduate, they verify your credentials before you take the exam.
If you are a student, you have to have a valid form 186/187 (depending on your school) on file in order to take the exam, but dont have to send your final medical diploma.

I hope I was able to help!

I checked on the ECFMG website and this is what they are saying (https://iwa2.ecfmg.org/appforcert/on...verview.aspx):

Quote:
When you have completed the Application for ECFMG Certification, you will have the opportunity to review all information for accuracy and make any necessary corrections or changes before submitting it. You will also be able to print a copy of the Application for ECFMG Certification for your records. If you need to reprint your Application for ECFMG Certification in the future, you can access it using OASIS.

Once submitted to ECFMG, an Application for ECFMG Certification typically becomes valid immediately, allowing you to apply for examination. A notification will be sent to the e-mail address in your ECFMG record confirming receipt of your Application for ECFMG Certification. You can use OASIS to confirm that you have submitted an Application for ECFMG Certification.
So, you can log onto OASIS to confirm if you have submitted an application for ECFMG certification (and thus find out if you have paid the money).
I dont think they would allow you to apply for an exam if you havent, so you may have forgotten that you did that already...

Let us know what your OASIS says!

My oasis says "Waiting for certification of Identification Form"
which is form 186.
and also that "Medical Education Credentials not received"

I shall be sending
Form186
Form 187
Form344
Form 345
to ecfmg and wait for their response.
