Ukraine Kharkov Medical University and ECFMG Problem

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well.

I graduated from Kharkov State Medical University 2003, studying for USMLE Step 1, and almost ready for exam.

I finished the application on ECFMG's site and paid the $780 fee. At the end they told me that my college does not participate in the web portal and that I must print form 186 and get that signed by a notary official and mail it directly TO THE UNIVERSITY where the official must sign with all of the other paperwork and forms they provided, and that official must mail everything back to ECFMG.

I called ECFMG because I thought that I was supposed to mail it to them and they were supposed to contact my school? They said that no I am supposed to mail them to my school, and they mail everything back to them.

I called my school, they said that they do not accept mail from 3rd party including me and that ECFMG must mail the paperwork to them, not me?

I am so confused..and now getting stressed because I want to take the exam soon..

Can anyone help me?
Also I had read the ECFMG registration steps of this forum, which said that I was supposed to mail all of those things to ECFMG, and now ECFMG is saying no I am supposed to send them directly to my school?

??????

thanks for any help guys ..

ps. I'm living in the states now, so it would be difficult for me to go to the Medical University in Ukraine to solve this problem...

Default Here's what you should do

So far, most if not all of our members and friends did not send Form 186 themselves to the medical school. It's the ECFMG that has to send your Form 186 to your school (unless they suddenly changed their protocol or if they have special policy for Ukraine).

Here's what you should do...

Call the ECFMG again today and tell them that your school does not accept mails from me. Insist that ECFMG should send it.

If you fail in that telephone call, the next step is to call again yes, call the ECFMG again. Support agents in the ECFMG have frequently given different advices in the past.

If after calling the ECFMG several times and you did not get a solution then the next step is to try to find someone from your college who did the ECFMG verification before and see what they did, You can search our forums for Ukraine related threads and see if you can get someone.

If after that you still did not get a solution then try to send your family or friend to the college trying to convince them of the issue.

If all these attempts fail then (I hate to say this), put Form 186 in tanned large envelop and seal it and make it looks like the ECFMG is sending it and mail it yourself

You have to print 186 and sign it yourself in front of your school's officials I think. I don't think that they will accept it if you sign it from the USA and send it via mail . You must read the instructions to the official site

Correct Answer

The university will accept it if it is given in person by someone and not by mail. Try to contact someone studying there now and request him to go to the international department and give the form by hand, get it signed and collect it and mail it to you or ecfmg. The university does not accept mail because the reply envelope is not pre-paid and they will not pay a single cent for forwarding your mail to ecfmg. It's all a matter of money.

Default Kharkov State Medical

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge of and experience with Kharkov State Medical University. I applied via http://www.ksmu.kharkov.ua/ and after a detailed evaluation I received a letter of admission. I possess advanced degrees in the health sciences which cover most (if not all) of years 1 and 2 so I am trying to enter in either the 2nd or 3rd year. The problem is, I am not sure who I am communicating with. Whenever I write to what I believe is the University, I receive responses from one Mr. Hardeep Singh (Coordinator of Admissions) who seems to be an agent and not an employee of the University. Has anyone had this experience, and is this all legitimate?
Thanks,
Ron

You are right! He is an agent and he admits students to that university.

Thanks, and what can you tell me about the Kharkhov program regarding the following?

1. Quality of lectures
2. How rigid is the program
3. Are re-sits (of failed courses) allowed
4. Graduation rate (English Program)
5. Is there a strict classroom attendance requirement

I don't know why you are glued so specifically to kharkow because kyiv, odessa and other universities are better both in infrastructure and manpower.

I am not a graduate of kharkov but what i've heard is it's quite good. You must know by now that soviet style teaching system allows unlimited re-sits of failed subjects and it is the university's decision whether to promote you to the next course or not.

All universities in ukraine have a very high grad rate (like 99%) if you are a normal student (go to class, pass exams) and because it is very unusual for universities to fail foreign students (they want you out of there).

You also have to pay for missed classes. (I am not aware of the price/hour).Payment was mandatory a couple of years ago but i don't know if you still have to pay now because lugansk, dnepropetrovsk and kyiv have cancelled payments for missed classes and donetsk and zaporozhye have increased prices (zaporozhye has made it 10X)

Rigidity or flexibility of the program depends o whether you are dedicated to the profession or not and whether you want to be a good doctor or not.Nobody will force you to study once you are away from home.

Quality of lectures depends on the teachers. I have had american returned teachers explaining on the board for some subjects and some teachers just keep reading the slides (as if it's a spoken english class instead), so it is highly variable.

hope this helps!
