Hello,
I am also an IMG and have started to prepare for USMLE from today...
I tried to gather as much information as i could from internet and also from this site( it helped alot)...

So lemme tell you everything that i know as of know about USMLE step 1...

Firstly since u want a surgical residency which is tough for IMGs to get u need to have really good scores and not just the average score or passing marks...

Books that you will need are kaplan lecture notes and videos; First Aid ;
then people told me to have an account in usmleworld to practice question banks from there...

For now i will read only these books... If i come across any other good book i will let you know...

Then you also need to do NBME question papers online to know if you are prepared for the exam....

Then i am not sure how many years it will take to pass the whole exam but i guess it takes about 1.5 to 2 years if u complete all ur steps..(not sure about it tho)..

I am planning to give my step 1 next year in September or October...

And since u have not yet graduated it s gonna work in ur favor as fresh graduates are preferred over old grads ( but thats not it u also need good scores)...

I hope i was able to help you...

Ask me anything else if u want to i will definitely try to help you...

All the best..
