Question Other US Options of IMGs

Actually I was wondering if USMLE is the only way to work in America as a doctor and what about if someone did not pass the USMLE or want to prepare in USA but want to earn side way fro tuition fees or others.
I mean is there any other fields an IMG can get a job without USMLE taking?

USA is the land of oppertunities
You can do anything you like
You can work in insurance companies, or in research whether it's clinical or lab based.
You can work as medical assistant or you can find some jobs in medical universities.
The best thing is you start your own IMG service company and you will be making real money. Look at MatchAResident, Americlerkships, USMLEWorld, ...etc they are all started by IMGs who decided to leave the long path of medicine and took the short cut of business.

My friend worked as dissector and sample preparer in the Anatomy department of the medical school then she studied the USMLE while doing that job then she passed and she's now doing psychiatry.
So you can do the same or anything similar

I am a IMG and currently working as MA (medical assistant). Is good because at least you are not "disconnected" . I checked positions on the research area, but most of this jobs are for RN (register nurse), PA (physician assistant) or MD (medicla doctor) and all of them requires a license. I was frustrated and then I took the decision to prepare myself for the USMLE.
Maybe there are other options as a IMG, but if you can cerificate, just do it. At least the salary as a physician worth.

Default Registered Nuts :)

I'm currently working as a registered nurse at the University of California,my pre-med course was BS Nursing and I'm an IMG as well, currently preparing for my USMLE.I met a lot of IMGs who worked as RT( respiratory therapist) ,CNA (Certfied Nurse Assistant) ,Teletechs or Telemetry Technicians, Phlebotomists ,Medical Technologists(Med-tech),Pharmacy Techs and Pharmacists.I guess ,Uncle Sam have a lot to offer to IMGs that are already here wanting to get a job while preparing for USMLE.That's a very tough balancing act to do though - to juggle USMLE Prep with work. But it can be done..i guess.I'm still struggling myself and the road was really bumpy and still is.

I guess this forum will make it a li'l easier for us working IMGs to network and do the very tough juggle.Anybody here willing to juggle with me?Feel free to hit me up,I live here in southern califonia, currently preparin for step 1 and 2.

You just need to apply to MA positions and send your resume. Some employers would understand that you do not need a MA certification and if they are interested on your expertise and capacity, they will hire you.
Good luck .

Default board certification

Hello
Could you please tell if someone clearing USMLE exams and then as accordingly certified by the board would be able practice medicine (ie general physician) and by not going into residency.Or having a residency training is essential in such case?

Thanks

Default Yes

Yes, you can get a state license and practice as general practitioner( after passsing step3), then you seach through many of medical professional recruiter companies and u'll find many of them offering postion either in hospitals ot healthcare network, the salary is almost the same as Family physician.
Also while you are practicing you can be nvolved in online master degree or research which can boost your resume and apply to residency if still interested

Thats sounds a clear approach. However what if someone who is in the middle of Residency program (suppose Int.Medicine) and later if dislike and attracting toward another speciality and want to skip to that. Would it be possible. OR once entered into a particular residency would be a final choice.
Thanks

That sounds great. I thought we HAVE TO get involved in residency. I need to know more about this option.

Thanks Andres
I`d rather work in the us without getting into residency. because I`m not strong enough for those tough programs. Also I`m not interested in clinical practice so much. my real interest is in MD-PHD.
Anyways I could n`t find so many information about GP. except they don`t have GP here anymore, instead they have family medicine which needs passing residency.

Default surgical assistant job

I am a surgeon in my home country and will relocate to the U.S. soon due to political reasons. I went to the usmle steps 1 and 2 back in 1998 and got my certificate, I did not enter residency in USA at that time and moved back. I did general and oncologic surgery in my home country. In the future I will apply for a surgical fellowship trough the specific match ( I have to figure if my certificate is still valid), but in the mean time I need a job and I am thinking in surgical assistant which is a job that pays in the order of 18-20 $/hr. (I recently got certified as certified surgical assistant). I would appreciate any comment if anyone is in the same position. Thanks

You have to keep in mind that if you withdraw from your program without another residency position waiting for you, there will be some serious challenges for you to overcome when reapplying.

Your application will have to show your previous experience and in almost all cases, a new residency program will want to contact your previous residency program for feedback prior to offering you a position.

Make sure that you research very carefully the possible consequences for every major choice you make when it comes to your healthcare career.

I wish you the best of luck!!

Good luck .
There are many options that other IMGs are making a career of. Clinical Documentation Specialist is one of them. If you live in Ca, Tx, PA or CT you can send your resumes to recruitmentscds@gmail.com.

For the most expert Sclerotherapy service in Oak Brook, you can simply pick Charming Skin. We offer you considerate administration, under the authority of all around rumored specialists who have heaps of hands-on, pertinent experience.
