Question Residency after MPH!

hi!
I have graduated in feb 2011. If i were to enroll in an MPH program which starts in FEB/March 2013 and completes in FEB/March2015, I could apply for a residence in sep 2014. Would that make me an old graduate? Will that gap from clinical medicine ( although i plan to do externships during that period ) be a disadvantage?
are there any other courses ( for a year or less ) which i can enroll in to obtain a student visa so that i may do externships along with the course?
Since it isnt easy to get a B1 visa or even stay for prolonged periods in US on a B1 visa, What alternatives do i have to get more clinical experience?
Thanks.

You will be at 3-4 post grad years when applying for residency, but you will have an MPH diploma and this would boost your application a lot. You will stand out from the rest of the people who have nothing else besides their scores so yes it will help you a lot.
If you do externships during that time, then you will increase your chances even more.

hi
the problem with doing MPH from a low ranked university ( read as affordable fees ) is that you may face VISA problems. It is hard to convince the VO that you want to genuinely pursue MPH as you are doing it from an inferior university. ( you may/ may not want to get into a residency, it does not matter. what matters is if you can convince the Visa Officer )
But just to give u an idea, hopkins, harvard, columbia, chapel hill, emory, illinois, UCLA, Minnessota, Boston, Pittsburgh - all of these have tuition fees approximately $50,000 +/- 10K for the entire course PLUS living expenses extra about $1200 a month
Alabama, Texas ( Houston ), Iowa - these have fees in the range of $6000 to $8000 per term ( x4 so approx 24k to 32k for the entire course)
Hope this helps

hi
GRE scores above 1100 ( along with good resume and SOP ) should be sufficient to get into any school other than the top 5. For the top schools like hopkins, harvard, chapel hill, columbia etc, you will need 1200+
Toefl scores vary. But above 85 out of 120 should be sufficient. ( pls confirm )
If you want to apply for fall 2012 ( august ) then u need to submit your application asap. Most good schools have their deadlines in december and January.

I am thinking of taking a loan, i am in the process of finding out the details, as i am not sure of the bank procedures for processing a loan for a foreign student... and u are right, VOs are being very tough these days..
You said that Texas and the other two states have low tuition, can u let me know which University.. I am having trouble finding the list of universities taht provide this course.. They dont have a single website like ERAS or ECFMG.. its scattered all over the web... Any help regarding the list of Universities that u have would be really helpful ...

Thanks for ur time buddy
