Program Directors What program directors look for in an IMG candidate?

hello everyone I just want to ask few things that I am just curious to know

I am recent graduate and i just want to know what are PDs see in candidates.

I mean everyone know recent medical graduates are more strong in theory but clinical skills are limited and high score they see and USCE also but what they expect resident must know before joining I mean IMG must know before i choose as resident

I mean they expect us to know how to treat this pt like doc etc or skill etc what i mean we just know little things minor things during our studies rt we cant write treatment for HT etc but yes we know how to do LP or pleural tapping etc etc i hope u understand what i mean.

There are two types of program directors:

Type 1: PDs in Universities and high profiles settings. Such PDs do not look for clinical experience and they don't expect you to be an expert in clinical bedside procedures or to be comfortable managing complicated geriatric cases. They look for your enthusiasm, theoretical knowledge, nice personality, good communication skills, potential for research and fellowship, ..etc

Type 2: PDs in community programs and low profile settings. Such PDs are looking for expert old grad with lots of clinical experience so that the residents help them in providing the service and also they are not really interested in teaching so they want ready-made residents.

Of course, this is not a strict rule. I am just giving the two ends of a spectrum, there might be PDs in between or there might be PDs who wants half expert and half fresh residents, ...etc

Step taker how to increase chance in that case, i mean as fresh graduates and lack of skill its means its depend on various program that we will apply right what they want. There is no rule some accept gap in cv and lack of clinical hold but hard working with usce they may give you chance right.

How can we increase more chance in that case. This means its depend on individual places we are applying so need to search for things like that even some community place give us chance if they will like us right.

I agree. Do they care about whether one can detect findings on physical examination because as mentioned graduates even fresh ones especially IMGs lack the clinical skills needed. Like for e.g. detecting murmurs and findings on physical examination or is it just about demonstrating sufficient knowledge and understanding how things work?
