Default step one score vs YOG

hi
i am an IMG,graduated in 2014 jan.i am planning to give step one in nov 2015.Then i am hoping to give step 2 after about 6 months and participate in 2016 match.my doubt is wheather to give my steps and participate in 2016 match(approx 3 yr from graduation) or postpone my steps to score better and gain clinical experience and apply for 2017 match.can anyone pls advice me regarding this.Also i am trying in California which is very competetive.
