There are several ways to get published I guess. Case reports, review articles, research manuscripts, etc. Find out which ones are you interested in. If you want to publish through research, then you should ideally be helped by your mentor particularly in the initial stages till u get hold of the process. Review articles are where you would be creating a good summary of all the available information of the disease. Case reports and abstracts/poster presentations on interesting cases are other common publications for medical students. If you find a good or rare case, something that is different from the usual disease presentation or has a good investigate work up, then write a case report about it and send it to various online journals. These are just a couple of examples. But there are tons of other ways to get published. Read articles in medspace which provide detailed info specifically directed for medical students to publish articles.

I am a co-author of an abstract of a case report. I had the chance to follow the case during my electives and expressed interest on writing up a case report. i worked with the fellow and it was published in a good journal. I would love to write more case reports but I do not have time for that now as I am reading for CK. Good luck to you.

Well so it's better to try while doing electives. But can you please lil bit elaborate that what should we write in case report i mean we just have to briefly present that rare case right ?
and good luck with your ck prep.

Yeah pretty much. Case report usually includes an abstract/introduction of the disease and why this case is unique compared to the rest, case presentation, discussion and conclusion.
