Idea! Xperience!

Hey guys! I apologize if the questions I post have been posted elsewhere...but i checked and didn't find a good answer so i thought i'd ask u guys here:
Starting off I'm an IMG, scored low on step 1 (but did pass , am awaiting CS results (dont have a good feeling ) and am preparing for CK. I'm a US citizen and am desperate to get in an IM residency! I have a couple of publications as well. The questions I wanna ask are:
1. If say I fail CS, is there any chance I can match in IM anywhere? And what will the best way be to approach September then?

2. Hopefully if I pass , what is the best way to polish my CV..long-term research or lots of observerships?

3. Does working as a PA count as a positive when compared to observerships and research? (Frankly, I wanna make some money so I can apply broadly and I cant figure out how to do that)

4. How do off-cycle residency spots open up and work? and what is their impact on an applicants CV?

I would appreciate any help a lot!
