Info MD/PhD or Physician Scientist?

hey guys
heard there are lots of MD/PhDs in the US
but as foreigners if we do not wish to do residency. What is the path to doing PhD in addition to having an MD? Should one still pass all the steps (including step 3 for unrestricted license)?
if anyone knows anything about this..please post!
thanks

You cannot practice in US without doing residency in ACGME approved program. Very very rarely there might be an exception.
Yes you can do fellowships, PhD's, but if want to work in US as Physician then Residency is must.

You may get PhD before residency, but what I said was that you cannot practice in US without completing residency or in some states with minimum of 1 or 2 years of residency years.
You can get residency without step3. You need to be ECFMG certified which you can get by successfully completing step1, Step2CK, and Step 2 CS.
