Default need help

hello
I found your forum by chance and i went through it . its amazing and very informative , i wish i saw it before!
I need your help (advice), although its a personal question but I dont know who should I ask ?
to summarize , i am a pathologist & board certified in my country with 15 y practiced as pathologist and pathology lecturer for medical and dental students however when i arrived in USA i took usmle steps and will apply for the match this coming year(2014)... at the same time i found a job in a pathology department as a tech. lab assistant ( my duty is to help pathologist to get images for important cases and upload them to website and helping preparing pathology images for conferences , through this job i learnt a lot about health system in usa and got a lot of promises from the doctors to provide me with letters of recommendations & to help me through the match next year . the problem is Im stuck now with them ,i wanna quit the job to be prepared for the matching and other staffs but I found it difficult to tell them that I wanna quit ? ( ive been with them for 2 years)
is it more beneficial to stay with them until hopefully i get matched or what should i do.
its a very good hospital that i worked in now but im lab tech !! how can i be a full time resident and still part time employee in this hospital!!! no way.
i dont know what to do really confused and unhappy as im leaving something for uncertain thing although they keep promise to help me going through the match process as they have pathology residency program !
what should i do quit now or wait ?
sorry to bother u with my long story
thanks in advance for your advice

Wait. Do not quit your job as a tech lab assistant. Many residency programs consider this type of work experience to be residency relevant especially Pathology programs. Just make sure that you document it correctly on your CV and ERAS Application.

If your LORs highlight your hands-on clinical work experience they will also help you greatly.

From what you shared so far as an older graduate, that became ECFMG certified 5 years after graduation, and hasnt completed any clerkships/externships you would have to focus on the areas that you can improve upon.

Only resign from your current position if you secure residency in March. Your residency program wont start until June-July giving you plenty of time.

Best - Victor

You are on the right track , do not quit your job unless you have gone through the match process and secured a residency , You could give your 2 weeks notice then.
If your colleagues are promising to help you out in the match process make sure they follow through on it. It is just a couple of months for the eras to open up, start uploading your credentials then and you'll see that every thing falls in the right place
and I have to say that I agree with Victor here
