Can someone give me a framework of a email..on how to write to a researcher saying we're interested in working/volunteering for them? do we write a bit about their research? Do i mentoin i have no past research experience?
(Based on my experience of emailing thousands of faculties for paid assistant positions.)
Here is what I normally do to draft an email:
1st paragraph: Tell your name, what are you doing currently, why you are emailing the person, followed by how this research would fit into your long term plans.
2nd paragraph: Mention briefly about your experiences and skills, and how these would benefit the mentor's research projects (if applicable.)
3rd paragraph: Tell them you have attached your CV with the email and that you would be happy to hear from them.
Also try to make a decent-looking professional signature at the end of your email if you can.
The key here is to convey the message in most minimum words possible!
Good luck!
