Question Starting with Step 2?

I'm a 6th year medical student and I just recently decided that I want to take the USMLE exams and hopefully go to the US. I know that taking step 1 before step 2 is better for understanding the material but on the other hand I think that studying step 2 while on rotations in the 6th year would be more helpful in my final year than going back to the basics. Any thoughts/ advises/ experiences as to what should I start with?

Doing step1 first is recommended and it helps doing step2 faster as well later on. But you can still do step2 first if you want. People do that.
Try reading kaplan during your 6th year and also try doing uworld. If you think you can do the questions, then its fine. But if you think that your lack of basic knowledge is causing problems, then go back to step1 first.

i know many people started step 2 before step 1 and they were able to score 260+ . so no rigid rule , do what you find suitable for you
