Help Please Advise: PhD but old IMG or?

Hello colleagues,
I need your advise. I am planning to give an exam on Sept 13. Well, the only stuff which I haven't completed yet with Kaplan notes and lectures is Pharmacology. Though I have done all UW tests of pharm too with 74% result without reviewing.
I also did one UW self assessment exam No1 with 263 score.
The thing i,s that I have graduated in 2009, and I am intended to apply for match in 2015, which means if I match I will start working on 2016. Am I considered old IMG, and what chances I have to obtain a position (Immunology or Oncology) in good clinics imaging that I will have an average score for step 1 and 2 ck 230+ being old IMG?
After my graduation I have passed a clinical residency of Immunology and Allergology in Armenia and now I won a PhD student scholarship in France, Montpellier. This Program is till 2016 JULY. Is it worth to do it till 2016 or it will be better to decline this in order to work hard for 2014 US match, what you advice? Will PhD status serve as a breakthrough in matching or no?

First welcome to the forum. Do well in steps and you shall have no problem matching. Your prep seems very good and you will score high. what you want to do is your personal preferrence. Yeah, after 5 years of graduation you will be considered old grad. That will be a little red flag but then there are people like us who graduated even earlier than you. Keep preparing for your steps. good luck.

Although you will be called as an old grad, but that phd will be a like a good star, i mean, it will definitely make some impression, and it will show that you have done something else too after graduation, and not just took exams while sitting at home... so i think u should go for it...

Barev. Glad you got perfect score 244. Graduated Yerevan Medical Institute 2008, came here, took Kaplan courses, took step 1 and didn't pass, studying myself, thinking about tutor for the next few months. May I ask - any suggestions?

Thank You my friend... I am now involved in PhD program which will last at least three years, hope I will reach to 2016 match. I received the results and the result of step 1, it was 254. I will start step 2 ck from January and hope God will protect my dreams...

I wish you luck! and if you try hard you will succeed.

Helo Mike 99. Sorry to hear that. But never stop fighting. Fortes fortuna adjuvat. You must understand what went wrong. What was your assessment scores, like nbme, uwsa, did you do uworld? Can you tell me more? I also went kaplan and found it useless, may bebecause it was beginning of my study. For me it was too short. So bottomline, tell mem more about your study. Ev hachelia shat Hayastanic mard gtnel.

Barev Armensanos. I started from KLN and videos, after first read I suscribed to kaplan qbank. Although its questions are sometimes very low-yield, or asking something very detailed, it is good practice for time management, because questions are long(not like in uworld). Second and third read was mtb 2 and 3, and I'll advise you to read everything from MTB 3 (there are suggestions to read minors(ob/gyn, psych, surgery, ethics, pediatry) from mtb 2and 3, and IM from mtb 2 on this forum). As a qbank i used uworld, I think it is main source for prepairing to ck. Currently doing qbank and assessments only, my exam is in december, so will share more information after that. Good like you in your study.
