Listening 2003 graduate; what are the chances?

Hello everyone

I just joined and needed some advice from all those who can spare the time.

I graduated from med school in 2003. I graduated in the top ten in Final year and worked for around a year in a government hospital. I had family problems due to which I had to leave off my studies and I would work in a hospital on and off. I had always planned to give the steps but now being 2011 and having to start from scratch, I'm wondering what are my chances of attempting USMLE and getting a residency in States. Is it harder for IMG's who are old graduates....How long would it take approximately to study for step 1 from scratch?
Probably I'd have to do it alone since my whole batch is well settled...

Is is doable? I hope I am being realistic with my chances.

I would really appreciate any advice or help on the matter.

Thank you and may God bless you

Take care and all the best.

Yes, I believe you do have a chance in getting into residency.

The issue of old graduates has been discussed in several good threads before I refer you to read them here

Default Thank you:)

Thank you so much for your help and guidance and for your positive answer. It's very encouraging.

God bless you.

I intend to try my best and set realistic goals. Though I feel quite a bit rusty and honestly overwhelmed at the moment but I am equally excited at the prospect of going over the basics and in a way starting over again.

Thanks once again.

Take care
