Default obsrevership/externship/elective

Hai...i m an intern..from India...
I m interested to do post graduation in paediatrics or obs..i ve not taken step 1 exam yet...
How can I apply for observership/externship/elective for diffrent colleges?
Is step one necessary for these?

There are very universities which we can apply without step1 scores .
search online go to their websites and apply .
Take toefl as soon as possible .
All the best .

As you have graduated from medical school, you will not be able to do an elective. The most common pathway for IMGs is to do an observership or externship. It's generally a good idea to get the Step 1 done as this will open up more doors. Some actually require ECFMG certification (ie Step 1, 2CK and CS). Having said that, the Steps are not necessary for all experiences.

You can look online first if you do not have any connections in the U.S. There are many places that advertize observerships (usually for a fee). You will have trouble finding externships online except through externship companies (these always cost money and can be expensive). If you have connections you can try to go through them also.

I would work out where you ideally want to live (if you an idea) and think about US clinical experience as a way for you to see what the health system is like, as well as getting U.S. letters of recommendation, which can be very helpful for your residency application (as long as the letters are of good quality and depth).
