Default Step by step guide: how to request to change usmle step 1/ step 2 CK Testing region

1. Download ECFMG Form 312
2. Fill up Form 312 using ink. (Usmle ID no., Name, current usmle testing region, your requested testing region)
3. Pay $65 dolars thru OASIS (this is better than sending them Form 900 that requires you to give them your credit card info)
4. Fax your Form 312 to this number: (215) 386-9196
5. Call this number to confirm if they received your fax: (215)386-5900
6. Wait for 10 days for your confirmation thru email.
7. Schedule your exam at your new testing center.

Alternative Step:
1. Instead of calling them to confirm if they received your fax, you can just check your ECFMG financial account. If it says "charge", it means that they already started processing your request. Call them if your $65 payment is still there. Note: It takes 1-2 hours for your fax to be transferred to their computer system.

FAQ:
Can I still change my testing region if I already received my permit and scheduled my exam? YES

Should I cancel my exam sched in my current testing region before i send my request? Yes ( but its ok if you dont because they will automatically cancel it for you once you get your new permit)

Do I need to submit a letter aside from the form 312? No (but you may if you want to)

Do I need to call ECfMG first before I send my form 312 to get the name of the operator? No ( but you may if you want, just dont write her name on the Form 312. *someone posted in this forum that there must be ATTN. with your request*)

For more info regarding additional payments (if applicable), see FOrm 312 instructions.

i hope this post will help you. :-)

Default Question regarding changing testing region

In order to change my testing region, I faxed a completed Form 312 and at the same time I cancelled my scheduled appointment. Unfortunately, my scheduled exam date is less than 30 days away. Therefore, according to my scheduling permit, before I reschedule I will have to call prometric and pay a fee to reinstate my eligibilty period. Does this apply in my case also? Will I have to call prometric and pay the fee to be able to reschedule, although when I reschedule I will do so in another testing region and with a new scheduling permit? If yes, do you know whether I would also have to pay the fee if I didn't cancel my scheduled appointment myself but let them do it instead while issuing my new permit?

Thanks in advance.

This is just a quick post because I couldnt find any info about this when i was looking.

I changed my region while there was less than 30 days left until my scheduled date and prometric didnt charge me. I only had to pay the $65 to ecfmg and request the region change. And then schedule a date with prometric once i got my new permit, and they didnt ask me for any extra fee's.

Note: I did however cancel my old appointment through prometric before applying for the region change. They didnt charge me then as well, even though there was less than 30 days...but from what i understood usually you have to call them and pay them $50 before you can usually reschedule a new date if you cancelled within the 30 days. However, after the region change i did NOT have to do that.

I just did the same thing, I cancelled my old appointment, (no fee involved) and I got a confirmation, of the cancellation.

I then sent ECFMG the fax about the region change (this is the second time i'm changing my region!!! my center doesn't have any slots for the next 60 days,...so i'm going to a different country to give it!)

So ill post an update then,, of if they charged the re-sched or not. Hoping they dont
