Hong Kong Changing USMLE Testing Region to Hong Kong

Hi, I just received my scheduling permit and was shocked to see no dates in the month i wanted to take...but there was one date 2 months ahead, but still in my eligibility period. so out of anxiety not to miss that one also, I scheduled my exam there.
But later, I found out that there are many seats available in Hong Kong which is very close to my country.
I would like to change my testing region to there. Now how should I do it?? I have read the previous threads about it. If I need to call the Prometric center, which one should I call, the one I just scheduled, or the one in Hong Kong? And whats the process? How long does it take?? Plz, help me !!

If it's about changing the testing region (not changing the prometric center) then you should call ECFMG. You need a new scheduling permit that will allow you to take the exam in Hong Kong. You will be required to send a request letter through fax to ECFMG and pay additional amount of money (if it applies to you). It will take around 2 weeks for your new scheduling permit.

I dont think so because they asked you to fax it directly to ECFMG. You can fax the request letter to +1 215 386 9196, attention : Candice. I dont know if that applies to everyone who wants to change the testing region. Better call them directly.

I got email from them one day after I faxed it. Before I knew about this thing, I sent email to ECFMG (2 weeks ago) asking if it's possible to change the testing region but to get reply from them I have to wait for 15 bussiness days (3 weeks). I cant wait that long so I decided to call them directly as suggested.

This is the email that they sent to me today :

March 30, 2011

Dear Doctor,

I am writing in response to your email below.

Please be advised that ECFMG received your faxed request to change your testing region from the United States and Canada to Indonesia for your USMLE Step 1 examination on March 30, 2011.

Please note that your request has been forwarded to ECFMG’s Registration and Credentials Department for processing. Please allow approximately ten business days for this request to be processed from the date of receipt.

Sincerely,
info@ecfmg.org
RC

I dont know if you will get the same email from them confirming that they have received your fax.
