Everyday, we here about IMGs not getting matched despite their great profiles. Should one just give up now while they can? What is the reality of USMLE? Is it worth all the money?
Competition is fierce...it is tough. Should someone have a plan B just incase they don't get residency? Ur opinions are welcomed...

It's not over yet

The USMLE is not a lost battle yet.

This year, there were an increase in the percentage of IMGs accepted into residency and a record number of prematches, for details read here http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-news/7837-img-performance-2011-match.html

You should not be thinking of plan B. Your aim should be to get 99 in both the steps, get LoRs and USCE, and you will easily match into residency.

Thanks steptaker.
I have a question though. Once you graduate and get your MBBS degree, in our country (not sure about other countries), you have to do 1 year of internship but you are still considered a graduate. Is it a must (better) to do this internship or can you start residency PGY1 and apply after you graduate?
and also if I'm planning on doing an elective, when is the best time to do it when you are a student? During final year of study or it doesn't matter? How many US LoRs are needed? Is 1 enough? My last question is, is the elective course u choose dependant on which specialty you want to pursue for residency? i.e if you want peds you should do an elective course in peds etc?
Thanks
