Default Is health care reform good for IMGs?

Do you guys think that the new changes that Obama and co are making to the US healthcare system are making things easier or more difficult for us to match in the near future? What about for us to practice in the US long term?

I think it has good news and bad news

The good news: As more American people are going to be insured then this means you need more doctors. Such a sudden spike in the need for doctors and services will not be covered immediately by American doctors (building a new medical school and graduating doctors needs at least a decade). So this urgent need for sure will be covered by IMGs which means better job oppertunities for us.

The bad news: As there will be "Low Cost" options this for sure means "Low Salary" doctors! Is if you are planning to stay in US and live in US then probably the doctor's job will not be rewarding as it has been before.

There's a big problem with health care reform that people may not be paying attention to.

So far, USA has taken the lead in the world as the best health care development and innovation. Do you know why? It's because of research.

Research has been a major factor to set US apart from the rest of the world.

The new plan means more resources will go to cover services and this will definitely lead to less money being channeled to R&D. So just wait for a couple of years and you'll see how health care (including research, innovations, new drugs, doctors salaries, ....etc) will dramatically deteriorate.

Disagree,

First of all, Clinical research is mainly funded by grants and so it will not be affected.
Second, Drug and therapeutics research will not stop because the pharm industry will continue to make money at the same rate
before $1000 per medicine for 2 patients
now $500 per medicine for 4 patients

Health care reform is good for us, doctors
