USA Why U.S and USMLE?

Hey guys,

I know the answer to this question but I just wanted to hear your reasons for pursuing residency in the States.
Why USMLE? Why not our home countries? This will be a good discussion.

To be able to give my patients the best of me and not feel frustrated because of the system, where you wish yo can do more but you can't.

To be able to learn from the best doctors in the world.

To be part of the best and most advanced medicine.

To be a better me.

Love your answers! I agree, to become better doctors. To give better care for our patients. U.S medical training is just great, if not the best.
And about not having a life, I think the moment we entered medical school, we stopped having a life. So doesn't change a thing really.

First and foremost because I have an interest in specific medical specialty that can't be accomodated in my country. Secondly because US has the most advanced technology and knowledge in medicine and hopefully I can return home and disseminate the knowledge to my home country. Called me na´ve, but I am not pursuing money or a better life in US because life has always been good back there in my country.

I guess, that's how I think, our system isn't giving us any preference (US IMG's) over true IMG's.

Yes they are... US matched IMGs went up by over 150 last year alone while non-US went down that same amount. The number has increased consistently over the past years.

I guess they are, but 150 isn't a big number, especially not a bigger percentage.
