Question 41 Years Old IMG looking for residency matching

I am 41 years old IMG, currently employed in research work and plan to take step 1 this year and step 2 before July next year. Even I could pass all these tests, do you think it is hard for people to accept me with such age? Thanks.
Soso

Certainly difficult but not impossible.

There's no rule against age, but there are rule against (years off practice) so if you are currently working in research you shouldn't be regarded as off work.

The problem is with the coordinator filter (they screen out applicants based on years since graduation without reading the full CV), therefore, the trick is to get connections and try to reach to the residency coordinator and tell them that you don't have gaps in the CV and that you have such and such experience.

i know its difficult and i know u need contacts to make ppl look at ur profile but i feel its still worth giving a shot....its always better to try rather than not doing it due to some fear. I have seen ppl getting into programs at 38-39. so its worth it.

Hey friend..."Soso"?
Do u have an specialty?
How long ago u finished?
Is this research work being done at USA? ..or in ur country?

From the best of my understanding an IMG...a one "not that young" would have real strong opportunities if already had a specialization (residency) at his country... ..I mean...if he wants to do again the same specialty but in USA... ..at least that is what a surgeon friend of me told me recently.
EVEN IF u don't have a specialty...you have the other powerful weapon of value: research. So..do it.
But...I would tell u...just do it: you are under risk of getting it!!!

I sincerely congratulate you. I am with you. Go and her it!

Sir: I know IMG in their 50's got residency in USA, so the program is all about your score in step 1 and step 2 (at least 90 and above), also your experience in the Healthcare counts. Good score is better because the competition is tough.

Up to six month gap is OK, beyond that it will be frowned upon.
