Default Indian Psychiatrist diving into the USMLE process!

Hello all! I am an old member, and I last logged in in 2011 when I was still in my internship. I have since joined MD Psychiatry in India, and will be finishing in April next year. I am glad to say that I have gained back an interest in the USMLE! I can't wait to buy the 2015 FA! I am a Psychiatry residency applicant. I have a few queries:

1. Does my MD improve my CV (I have research, teaching, community service experience along with the clinical experience during MD)

2. Do I still need to do observerships in America to increase my chances of scoring a Psych residency?

3. Is a 220+ score enough for Psych residency?

Hello, i have not taken the steps yet. I am still on preparation. from the things that i know, psychiatry is not a competitive residency. Just try to score high on the steps, this is the baseline and you will be a competitive applicant. i think your eexperience is a plus for psychiatry. good luck

Congrats on completing PG in India(which is not easy).Yes ur MD and other stuff is a big plus point.

What matters now is
1.)your YOG.
2.)USCE,yes it is very much required, either observerships or externships..

No one can comment on scores, just try to get as high as possible.

Good luck..
