Question Age obstacles to get into US

Dear Friends I am a 37 year old Gynecologist from Syria. I did in 2005 after I finished my postgraduate training in OBGYN. I did PLABs and went to England but I could not find a post. Now I am working in a Hospital and I am thinking of doing USMLES seriously as a way to boost my career and hoping that I might be able to go to the USA for a new start. It has been a tough experience as my field is really dominated by female doctors who are far more popular than males. Is there a chance for some one like me if I can pass the USMLEs successfully? by the way I have passed German language exams but I was not given a Visa.

It's definitely difficult to get into residency when you are that old. But that does not mean it's impossible.

Things that you can do to dilute the effects of being old grad include the following:
  • Very high scores in all Step 1 and Step 2 CK
  • Passing the CS from first attempt
  • Research and publications in medline journals
  • USCE (externships or observerships) to get good US LoRs
  • Connections with ObGyn residency programs
You can also connect with other aspirant old graduates by clicking on the Old-Grad tag link at the bottom of this thread.
