Default UK Psychiatrists hoping to relocate

Hi, my wife and I are Consultant psychiatrists (just finished postgraduate training) in the UK but hoping to move to the states. I know this might seem crazy given that we have completed training here in the UK. We are starting to study for step 1. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any possibility of time off training given that we are both Consultants (attending) in the UK? thanks in advance.

As far as I know, no you would have to undergo complete training in US again. There are however a few fellowships, which might be directly available for those with residency training outside the States, but you can't practice after it.

In short, you would have to complete all the steps and redo training in US to practice as a psychiatrist. Good Luck.
