Italy Residency for an Italian student

Hi, i'm Laura and i'm an italian medical student.
i'm just 18 years old, but i already know what to do in my future: a residency training program in the USA.
i'd like to become a surgeon, but i really don't know what should be the better way to do this. i know about "steps", but i'd like to know if it could be possibile for me.
Are there any university that accept international students and who treats them like U.S one?
I was also thinking about an "observership", but i don't know, again, how to do it.
Please, if you can give me information, each possible thinkable information, i would be really grateful.

Looking forward to receiving an answer,
Laura

p.s. i'm sorry for my terrible english, i've to improve it.

Hey Laura, It's good you want to fulfill your dream to be neurosurgeon in US. I would say becoming an surgeon in US is very competitive but not impossible.

240-250+ scores, some United States Clinical Experience(USCE) and contacts ( if possible). Can get you into good surgery program.
To do residency in US you have to pass at least step 1 + step 2 CK + step 2 CS. ( all in first attempt)
Are u in medical school now? If yes, during your medical school time try to take at least step 1. During your internship you can go for elective in US.
I tried to answer some of your quires but still if u have specific questions try to read some of earlier post and ask about specific queries.
Buona giornata

thank you for replying and for precious information!
just another question: how may i obtain a period of elective in the US(does it corresponds to USCE?)? if i take step 1 then i can ask for an elective? if yes, how?
p.s. yes i'm in med school (first year), and i was thinking to take step 1 at my fourth year. but during that time may i do something else to increase my possibility to get into a good surgery program?
Excuse my petulance, but i'd like to have the same opportunities of a US student

excuse me, just another question.. how is a surgery residency program structured? how long does it last? are there some years of "general" surgery, during which you try each kind of surgery, and after you have to choose your specialization? Can you explain me? i'd like to have clear idea of what i'm gonna do.
Thanks in advance,
Laura

There are different university affiliated hospitals who offer electives. If you search in google you will get a long list of those hospitals. Most offer free of cost. You can go to there website and read there terms and conditions and apply according to that. As per I remember for electives most institutions require ILETS and few minor requirements.
As you mentioned that you are first year student. If you like you can appear both step 1 and step 2 CK and step 2 CS before your graduation.
Once you will get into residency you or any American graduate will have equal opportunities but normally during residency matches AMGs are preferred then IMGs (don't want to discourage you. Just want u to know there is tough competition out there. So be prepared).

As I am preparing for internal medicine US residency. So I just have vague about surgery residency program but if you search in some of hospitals website you will get complete info about whole surgery residency.
As I know there is at least 2 years of General surgery rotation then may be transitional year or more 2 years of fellowship applicant go for specialized surgery.
So all together it could vary from 3-5 years. More and exact details you can get in hospital websites.

Hope I answered your quires properly. Have a nice day.
