Question How High Should I Aim?

Hey there,
I need a little bit of advice from you guys, I'm an 2011 graduate IMG who just got done with step 1 and step 2 CK. I'm planning to take my CS on February 22nd. I'm planning to do some clinical externships throughout March and April, and then focus on step 3 throughout May and June and hopefully I can be done with step 3 late June or early July. After that I would like to continue with another month of clinical externship, and probably looking for research volunteership as I would love to go to a residency program with heavy emphasis on research. What do you think about this plan guys?

My first 2 steps were not too bad, I scored 253, and 255 respectively. Is this score reasonable to compete for a more competitive programs? However I also at disadvantage, as I have no publication in journal. Is it reasonable for me to aim for programs with heavy emphasis on research? Any advice to enrich my CV? Thank you for all the input guys

Those are some good scores, congratulations. Which specialities are you looking at? And the externships will be a good add to your application. According to the NRMP statistics publications has no influence on actual match rates.

Good luck!
