Default IMG Graduation Gap

Hi all!

I'm an IMG.This is my first post here.
I am preparing for my Step 1.Depending on how well I do I'll start with the USCE.
My questions are these:
Since I have graduated in Sept. 2010 (final year passed July 2009 + 1yr internship, which is compulsory for graduation),will that time gap factor in against me in the residency match,if I finish Step1+CS+CK before mid 2015?

What is alarming is I am well into my prep for Step 1 and only recently did I get to know through someone that there shouldn't be more than a 5 year gap from graduation and application for the Steps.....or I will be ineligible to give even Step 1!!!!

I have to mention that I did do an year of observership + volunteer work. But obviously that doesn't match up to actual clinical experience(Esp compared to USCE).Some say that extracurriculars can make a difference on your CV.
In the past 2 years I was representing my country as a sportsperson. Can that actually help? Will I have a good chance if i back it up with +90 scores and 6-months USCE? Or is it better to pursue alternative avenues?

Thanks

This whole info here is very, very wrong. You can still write the tests if you graduated > 5 y ago. Eligibility is alright as long as you are an IMG graduated from a FAIMER listed medical school. That is it. HOWEVER, nowadays, competition is very, very high, even for those non-competitive areas, such as IM, Neuro, FM and Psych. A graduation gap of > 5y is, definitely, a red flag. Try to compensate it w/ something else, like stellar scores (Not > 90, but at least 99), research (+publications), good USCE AND LORs. This day and age is becoming like hell's battlefield and flaws seem to be less and less acceptable, specially when we're talking about IMGs. No piece of cake. Apply yourself, my friend because it doesn't seem to get any better....Stick to your dream and do the best you can to make it happen. Good luck.

Hi Guys! I am currenty studying Medicine and surgery in Italy. I am a US citizen. I would like to specialize in FAMILY MEDICINE. I'll graduate in 2018. Since I've always worked to pay for University taxes, I have a 3 years gap period. Do PD care about GAP periods during medical school?
