Listening Old IMG Mom thinking to start Prep!

I am going to study for step1 but I am confused
I am an old IMG, graduated 6 years ago. Then I worked in a hospital for 2 years but since 4 years ago I am only a stay at home mom !
I think it is worth it to try my chance one time. But sometimes I think that I am too old (32 years) and I will never match .......... What do you think? Do I have any chance to pass these exams or to be matched after passing them?

Default Give it a try....

Of course you have a chance!! You are not old... I have heard of older people matching (And when I mean older, I mean older )... Age is nothing but a number!!

Try and get the best scores in all the steps... It will not hurt if you try... You don't want to look into the future and say, "What if I took the exams, Would I have matched??

Good luck with the studying!!!

A family friend went through a similar situation, but she worked hard and scored high in steps and then went on to do her residency in surgery from UTSouthWestern. I guess she was also in her early thirtees and an old IMG. Nothing is impossible. Remember that if you yourself are not going to start beleving in yourself, you will not succeed. Its time to start believing in yourself. And I'm sure you'll be able to do it.

Hi Fery1, it is never too late. Early 30s isn't late at all! Think on the bright side: a stay-home mom has a more flexible time compared to the rest of us who are juggling studies/work/research. Go all out for it, if that's what you want to do. Good luck!

I'm 36, a mom of a toddler and a beautiful baby. I graduated over 10 years ago, worked all the time in a hospital until one year ago when I moved to the U.S.
I just did step 1 this year (while pregnant in my 8th months - I posted my story in the step 1 forum) and doing the two steps 2 soon. So, yes, we can do it!!! It's difficult and you're not having the time that a lot of other people have but we can do it! And the reward is even better! Good luck!

Check some programs and their requirements. Some just require scores above 200, some don't have a score cut off. It depends on the rest of your CV, too. Good luck!

Wink I am an old IMG as well and have decided to do this!

Hey there...I am also 32 and have realised that this is something I really want.I guess all these years I let my fear get the better of me but I really don't wanna look back at my life one day and kick myself for not trying! And its never too late to follow your dreams. You just have to want it really bad!And believe that you can do it and that "every exam is doable" you just gotta work hard and work smart!I suggest we should form "lets motivate each other"group!PM me if you want a skype study partner!I am preparing for step 2 ck first!Good luck!!!!
