Question Timeline Approval

Hello! I'm from St. Luke's College of Medicine Class 2014 here in the Philippines and I was wondering, is my timeline ok? Am I missing something? Your inputs are very much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

P.S. In case you're wondering, I'm trying to apply for Neurology residency.

Your timeline seems legit. Im on the same train, a little bit ahead. I took my step 2 CS on June, currently waiting for the results in august and ready to apply this September, no rush.

Btw, your timeline is great. I was just wondering what was the interview period, because i wanted to know if I could be working back in my country. Now i see that i wont probably. Going to the US and stay with relatives during that interview period is also a good idea.

Good luck btw. Do you already have USCE or observerships done/planned?

very nice timeline, only thing your missing is observerships and externships.. many programs now require a minimum amount of them and the LORs are keyy

Watching videos on Kaplan Interview with Program Directors and they say that USCE is not really that big of a deal in choosing applicants since they have no assurance that a student's USCE is significant. I'm a fresh grad anyway so I guess that and my scores will be my weapons for application. ^_^

Are you sure they said USCE? I remember them saying observerships and externships aren't significant because they mean no responsibility, you could be allowed to take patient histories etc but there is no laid out work. When you do electives as a med student you follow a standard set by a school.

Oh, yeah, that's what I meant. Externships and observerships are practically "worthless" so I won't waste any money on those. Sorry, I misused USCE.

Well on some programs, they say on their requirements "USCE" and then "observerships count as USCE". But most will say "observerships dont count as USCE". I guess it varies.

In general, they are not that good, but its better than nothing, so I wouldnt say "practically worthless". And a lot of people can get USCE doing an observership. Many IMGs do a medical assisting kind of job while doing externships or oserverships. You only need to say that in your CV, and make sure the LORs also say that.

Default From MANILA! :)

Hey! I just took the August Boards too.

GREATTT TIMELINE!

I'm planning to take the USMLE as well!!! Right now, I am having trouble with my own timeline because I want to finish it as soon as possible. But I also want to invest on some brief USCE's because based on some sources, these may come in handy for your interviews. I also plan to apply as research assistant.

If you want a study buddy or someone who can relate with your journey, let me know!
