Star Help needed - Regards 'Publications' for Residency matching

Hello friends,

I heard that it is a plus point for the residency matching if one has publications or articles in any medical journals and I am confused about how to proceed with it. I am yet to give my exam ( this year ) and want to do everything to increase my chances of getting in.

Which journal to choose? Or how to get these publications done?

Should the articles be research based? ( I am an IMG and our college doesn't offer the honors degree )

Any tips or suggestions?

Any kind of help or information is appreciated!

Default hey!

as far as i know, publications can vary from making a case report to a research. the easiest way is to contact your medicine residents or professors of your hospital, and explain them your goal, they can make you second or third author of their research if you are willing to work. but i am also just a student and i may be wrong.

Literature reviews are a (relatively) easy way to get published also, and may have more weight in an application than a case report. Although pretty laborious, systematic reviews dont need any raw statistical work and a well written one is v likely to be published (possibly more so than case reports).

Find someone at your medical school who has published one before to approach for advice as to what journals would be a possibility, then find a topic you are interested in where there have been no recent literature reviews.
