Question I'll be ready for Sept 1st, but my MPSE won't be...

Everyone is saying be ready for Sept and be the first to apply---
But once you hit submit, you can't go back.

So if you've taken you CK on Aug 31st... should you wait 3 weeks to get that score back instead of submitting Sept 1st?

More importantly, my school (maybe others too) don't send MPSE until November, then including processing time.... what?
And supposedly the MPSE can really make a difference to programs! Our MPSE is a compilation of all the evals from clinicals, more personalized than a 3-digit score and maybe the only way they can see Im a person and not just a three-letter I.M.G.

So if you submit in Sept 1, then your 200 programs can make a decision about you before reading the MPSE?
That's not okay, is it?? Better to be the first to apply or have all your stuff in and apply late?

Arrow Here's the deal

MSPE is not of that value in the case of an IMG (read more). Simply because they don't trust non-US med schools!

Even if they will use your MSPE as a factor, it will for sure be later on, after passing the matching filters (Scores, USCE, LoRs, Visa,...etc).

Residency program coordinators (specially in IMG friendly programs) will start looking up applicants in September then they filter out few hundreds of them and give them to the selection committee, then the selection committee will choose few dozens of them to invite for interviews. When they reach to that point, they don't usually go back to ERAS and say OH here's a nice new October/November applicant, let's invite him.

Therefore, it's crucial to apply early.

Now, the question is how early!

In my personal opinion, I think 3 weeks into September is fine. I mean
[Sept 1st without CK versus Sept 21st with CK], I choose the second option.

Interesting thoughts, thanks.

Does your opinion change if I say I didn't do any foreign rotations, so my MPSE is based on clinicals which I did all in the states, so maybe a little less falsification since those evals were written by 'legit' attendings? haha

I wished I could find again the document that has each specialty ranking what is important and the cutoff scores for interviewing.... that's where I got my info that MPSE is at least in top 3 for most specialties. If I find it I'll repost.

That document is mostly about AMGs (program director survey by the NRMP, here's the link). Caribbeans are not AMGs even though they do their rotations in US.

Also, remember when a Program Director says MSPE is extremely important, he is not accounting for the fact that actually he wouldn't read that MSPE if it was filtered out by his secretory before reaching his desk.
