Listening Am I good for the match!

I am planning to apply for this match. I didn't take step2 yet, I am not sure if I will be able to complete my step 2 ck and get ECFMG certified by Sept 1st. Are my credentials good enough to get interviews with only these credentials. I would appreciate your reply

My credentials are:

2011 grad, IMG
Step1 232/99
CS passed first attempt
USCE: elective one month at MSKCC and 1 and half month externship
LORS: 2 in hand, 1 yet to be given(all U.S), I can get deans letter as MSPE (4th Lor).
Visa status: B1/B2

I am interested in IM or peds

Yes you can do it but make sure you get your scores early to be considered in the rank.
MSPE is not considered as 4th LOR, you can get 4 LORs beside the MSPE. Do apply on time at September 1st widely to as much programs you can afford.

Thanks a lot for the reply !

Can I take both a recommendation letter and MSPE from my dEAN? Does that work? Or is it better to take the 4th letter from our school faculty.

Hi add1,

Thanks for ur concern. But, I cannot wait till next year becoz it will be 2 more years to join residency even in the best case that I match next year, If I did not match next year it will be 3 years. Then I will be aa old grad and all my chances will be doomed and also we cant expect what ECFMG will introduce next year (they are canceling prematches). So, I want to give it a best shot this year.

So, I want to try this year seriously and I hope that ur wishes will be with me . So, I really want a frank opinion what my chances will be for this year.

Yes you can take a LOR from your dean if he was involved in your clinical rotations (observing and evaluating you) in a certain specialty.

Help hope!

this gives me some hope guys...im presently going to give my step 1 in 2 weeks or odd..im holding out for my nbmes to cross the 230 mark, will then fire...ive also gotten my cs cleared first attempt, am a 2011 grad and have 2 lors from 2 months usce. and 2 from home country. i was thinking of finishing my step 1 end of the month and attempting a mad dash for the ck in 1.5 months/mid august so as to be able to be certified by end sept and start applying...any sense in that?or do you think its worth my time to wait on my ck and give it properly while hoping for interviews this year?

I would not advise u to rush things.having a less score is even worse.Any ways the new change made by USMLE may give some flexibilty with ur exam date

do your ABSOLUTE BEST at your 1 interview, make sure you shine, look good, and be prepared. research the program, have answers they might ask ready, have questions you can ask ready.
be personable and friendly be yourself, and go there to make friends, but dont be inappropriate. save that for after you are hired
