Default Realistic Timeline

Hi guys,
I have to take Step 1, CS and CK. I am currently studying for Step 1 and I planning on take Step 1 in Feb, CS in march.
And if I take 5 months to study for CK, I will be able to take it sometime in August.
I am not too sure about this but is it true that if I take my CK mid to late august, it will be too late to apply for residency for next year?
Can you please guide me with a proper timeline?
Thanks.

It's like this: after you take your CK it takes 3 Wednesdays to get your result. So, be careful how you plan: if you take your test on a Thursday, for example, you have to wait almost 4 weeks for the result. After you have your last exam result it takes maximum 10 business days to get your ECFMG certificate. But you do not need the physical certificate to be certified! In their database, you are ECFMG certified almost right away and ERAS will get yor ecfmg certification notice sooner than you'll get the physical certificate in your maibox.

For example, in my case, I got my last exam result on 23rd of July and ECFMG sent my ECFMG status report to ERAS on the 25th of July. I got my physical certificate on the 29th.

Once ERAS is notified that you are ECFMG certified you are good to go! And you do not necessarily have to apply on the 15th of September. It's good if you do but it won't be the end of the world if you apply on the 20th, for example.

Thanks for the info.
But do I need to take the test before the end of July in order for my results to get on time for match for that year?
I am under the impression that if I were to take my exam in 1st week OR mid august, my results will be delayed more than 4 weeks and I will be late for my application. Is that true?

This is just so that I know when to schedule my last exam.

I think there is some delay this year if you take CK after the end of July because they are changing something in the CK examination. But I don't think that that is going to be a problem next year. I think that by then there won't be any delays, so you can do the above mentioned calculations for your timeline.
